Canada’s Provincial Nominee Program Help People to Immigrate
It is been 20 years since the Provincial Nominee Program was started by the government of Canada and over the years the program has grown both in importance and size. It has grown to become the second largest program for economic immigration in the country.
Back in the year 1998 nearly 200 people were welcomed to Canada through the PNP or Provincial Nominee Program. It is now bringing in more than 30% of immigrants to the country in the year 2018.
By using the Provincial Nominee Program, provinces and territories in Canada select a specified number of economic immigrants every year and nominate them to become permanent resident of Canada.
The 11 provinces and territories of Canada run more than 60 Provincial Nominee Program streams among them and every stream has been constructed to bring immigrants to fulfill specific labour market and economic requirements in these regions.
There is one PNP stream in most of the participating provinces and territories that is aligned with the Express Entry system of the federal government, which is the primary source of economic immigration in Canada.
The Express Entry-linked PNP streams are also known by the name “Enhanced PNPs” and it enables a province to pick up candidates from the Express Entry pool and invite them to apply for a provincial nomination.
All those PNP streams that operate outside of Express Entry are known as “Base PNPs”, wherein candidates are also nominated who then apply for permanent residence outside of the Express Entry system.
No Canadian Experience Required
Many aspiring immigrants are of the belief that a prior Canadian study or work experience is required in order to seek nomination from a province in Canada. While this is a mandatory requirement in some of the PNP streams, but it is not true with all the PNP streams.
According to some numbers from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) nearly 64.7% of immigrants who came to Canada between 2010 and 2015 through Provincial Nominee Program were previous temporary residents of the country. What this means is that nearly a third of provincial nominations have been given to overseas candidates.
Combining the immigration from the province of Quebec, nearly 50% of total annual economic immigration to Canada is led by provincial nomination.
51,000 was the admission target set by Canada for the year 2017. According to the multi-year immigration levels plan announced by the federal government of Canada, the annual intake through PNP will grow by 11% over the next three years.
